Robinhood Chain DEX volume falls 23% as traders question its momentum

Robinhood Chain has recorded a 23.1% weekly drop in decentralized exchange volume while retaining $1.132 billion in DeFi deposits, as traders debate whether its post-launch slowdown signals deeper problems.

    Summary

    • Robinhood Chain’s weekly DEX volume reached $5.255 billion, down 23.1% from the preceding seven-day period.
    • $1.132 billion remains locked in DeFi, with stablecoin capitalization standing at $1.05 billion.
    • DJ Griffith’s Oct. 23 chart places Robinhood Chain behind Solana, BNB Chain and Base.
    • Community commentators have split over trading losses, builder support and the timeline for tokenized-stock adoption.

DefiLlama’s Oct. 26 dashboard lists $683.98 million in 24-hour spot DEX volume and $5.255 billion over seven days. Perpetual futures trading reached $6.869 billion for the week, down 4.62%, a smaller decline than spot activity.

The network’s trading slowdown has drawn criticism from participants who expected Robinhood’s brand and financial products to sustain its early momentum. Others have defended the chain, arguing that a few months of trading provide too little time to judge its development.

Robinhood Chain trails rivals in seven-day trading averages

DJ Griffith shared a DefiLlama-sourced chart covering July 7 through Oct. 23, showing Robinhood Chain’s seven-day average daily DEX volume at $820 million.

The same chart placed Solana at $1.93 billion, BNB Chain at $1.01 billion, and Base at $840 million. Robinhood Chain ranked last among the four networks shown, trailing Base by $20 million a day.

Griffith criticized the performance and called on Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev to respond.

    “What a wasted potential, honestly.”

His chart shows Robinhood Chain’s average climbing above $2.5 billion around early September before retreating through much of October. Solana’s trading average declined from its late-August and September highs as well, while Base finished the period slightly ahead of Robinhood Chain.

The $820 million figure represents a seven-day rolling average through Oct. 23. DefiLlama’s Oct. 26 figure measures a single 24-hour window.

Earlier reporting had documented weaker network activity before the latest criticism. An Oct. 11 report described a 42% transaction decline, with daily transactions averaging 6.2 million during Oct. 2–8, compared with 10.8 million during Sep. 10–16.

DeFi deposits remain above $1.1 billion

Despite lower trading turnover, DefiLlama recorded a daily TVL change of just negative 0.04% on Oct. 26. Stablecoin capitalization fell 0.24% over seven days, with USDG accounting for 64.6% of the total.

The dashboard separately listed $335.38 million in active real-world assets and $2.474 billion in bridged TVL. Network fees reached $32,373 over 24 hours, while applications generated $1.34 million in fees and $290,858 in revenue.

Product development has continued during the trading pullback. As crypto.news reported on Oct. 22, Robinhood confirmed stock-token collateral borrowing through Morpho, allowing eligible holders to pledge Stock Tokens and borrow stablecoins.

Morpho’s announcement described lending markets that wallets and applications could integrate. The network’s TVL stood at $1.14 billion in that report, close to the latest reading.

Analytics infrastructure has developed alongside lending. Arkham reported 35 million labels for Robinhood Chain on Oct. 19, describing support for address searches, transfer tracing, and custom alerts. Its original integration announcement dated to July 22.

Community debate centers on builders and corporate timelines

In a separate X post, commentator Chill defended the network while acknowledging concern among participants. The post described the recent event under discussion as more of an Arbitrum event carrying Robinhood branding than a dedicated Robinhood Chain presentation.

Chill argued that Robinhood operates on monthly and quarterly schedules, while onchain traders judge progress over days and weeks.

“That gap makes the community feel left behind.”

The post characterized the decline as a month-long pullback after three months of gains and said a reduction in speculative excess had been necessary.

Embedded in that defense was criticism from RickCrossChain, who called Robinhood’s presentation “very uninspiring” and alleged that the company lacked resources to support ecosystem teams.

SimpleFarmer offered a different defense in an Oct. 24 post, attributing much of the price weakness to macroeconomic market moves. The commentator argued that speculative crypto narratives operate on a different timetable from financial product development.

“Great businesses take more than 100 days to build.”

SimpleFarmer said conversations with businesses suggested interest in tokenizing stocks and building DeFi around them. Those comments described the author’s conversations and expectations, without naming the businesses involved.

Another commentator, Chill Pill, predicted a tenfold ecosystem rise over six to 12 months, urging traders to assess working products, revenue and the people building them. The post presented an investment view without supporting financial projections.

Tokenized-stock products carry separate access rules

Robinhood launched the public mainnet on July 1 using Arbitrum technology. Its announcement named Uniswap and Pleiades as initial trading partners and described lending and collateral use among the intended applications for Stock Tokens.

The company’s developer documentation identifies ETH as the network’s native gas token. Robinhood describes the blockchain as permissionless, allowing developers to deploy applications and users to interact through compatible wallets.

Stock Tokens have their own legal structure and eligibility requirements. Robinhood identifies them as tokenized debt securities issued by Robinhood Assets (Jersey) Limited, providing economic exposure to underlying securities without legal or beneficial ownership of those securities.

The company’s disclosures exclude Stock Tokens from availability in the United States and to US persons, with further restrictions applying in jurisdictions including Canada, the United Kingdom and Switzerland.
