Bitcoin trader claims $250K grew to $3.4M during sell-off

A Bitcoin options trader known as Crash has claimed to have turned $250,000 into roughly $3.4 million this week, sharing an account screenshot alongside a separate claim of a 150x return on a BTC put.

    Summary

    • Crash described the $250,000-to-$3.4 million result as a weekly gain across his trading.
    • A separate options trade allegedly turned $130 into $25,000 within six hours.
    • The attached screenshot displayed total account assets of $3,387,187.14.
    • His post emphasized closing positions after favorable moves, particularly when trading less liquid contracts.

Crash’s post described several trading results during the market decline, including the weekly account growth, a six-hour options trade, and a Bitcoin put that he said delivered a 150x return.

“Turning $250,000 into $3.4M this week on the market drop,” he wrote, before describing the smaller trade as his personal record for a percentage return on a single contract within one day.

The account image accompanying the post showed assets denominated in US dollars, with most of the displayed balance available and a smaller amount marked as in use. It presented an account balance rather than a transaction-by-transaction breakdown of the positions described in his message.

Bitcoin trader’s weekly gain differs from the 150x put

Using the rounded figures in the post, moving from $250,000 to $3.4 million represents a 13.6-fold ending balance. The difference between those amounts is $3.15 million, equivalent to a 1,260% gain on the stated starting capital.

Applying the screenshot’s more precise balance of $3,387,187.14 produces a slightly smaller result. Against the same $250,000 starting figure, the difference is $3,137,187.14, or approximately 1,255%.

Both calculations describe the arithmetic between the stated starting amount and ending balance. Neither establishes how much came from a particular contract, whether money moved into or out of the account, or how much of the displayed value represented closed trades.

The 150x figure appeared elsewhere in the post, where Crash referred specifically to a BTC put. He did not describe the entire $250,000 starting amount as having earned that multiple.

Keeping the two results separate changes the dollar calculation substantially. A position worth 150 times an initial $250,000 would reach $37.5 million, well above the account balance shown.

The $130 trade carries a different return

Crash separately claimed to have turned $130 into $25,000 in six hours on a single options contract.

Based on those stated amounts, the ending value would be approximately 192.3 times the initial outlay. Subtracting the $130 starting amount leaves a gain of $24,870, equivalent to roughly 19,131% before any trading costs not included in the figures.

The wording did not establish whether this was the same position as the Bitcoin put he described as returning 150x. The figures therefore represent separate claims in the post, without enough contract details to combine them into one trade history.

A contract’s strike price, expiration, purchase premium, and sale price would determine its actual return. Position size and transaction costs would determine the dollar profit.

His description placed the six-hour trade within one day and the larger account result across the week, giving the claims different measurement periods.

Put options can gain as Bitcoin falls

A put option gives its buyer the right, subject to the contract’s terms, to sell an underlying asset at a specified strike price. Cash-settled contracts pay a calculated settlement amount instead of requiring delivery of the asset.

As Bitcoin falls, a put can become more valuable because the right to sell at its strike price becomes more favorable. Its market price depends on more than Bitcoin’s direction, however.

The time remaining before expiration and the volatility priced into the contract can affect its premium. A comparatively small initial premium can produce a large percentage return if the option’s resale value rises substantially.

For a straightforward purchased put, the buyer can lose the premium paid if the contract expires worthless. An outright put purchase differs from selling an option, which creates a different set of obligations.

Crash focused his practical remarks on exiting profitable positions.

“Tip of the video is to always be selling / closing positions when you get a large move in your favor,” he wrote, placing particular emphasis on less liquid instruments.

In an options market, the displayed price and the price available for an entire position can differ. The bid-ask spread, available orders, and number of contracts being sold affect the proceeds a trader receives when closing the trade.
